Pruning a tree involves more
than just cutting it back. An experienced arborist
must first determine why the tree is being pruned
and then the type of pruning that will accomplish
that. This changes with the type of tree, time
of year, growing conditions, planting site, tree
health, tree structure, past pruning, and, not
the least of which, is the desire of the client.
Once the type of pruning has
been defined, it then becomes the job of the climber
to make that a reality. He does this with not
only knowledge of proper
pruning techniques but also physical
skill and agility to access the highest parts
of the tree, as seen in the above and left photos.
|
Sometimes that's with rope and saddle, as seen
above. This allows a climber to move thru a tree
and walk out on the branches. This is necessary
for most pruning. It is also the only way to prune
tall and inaccessible trees.
Other types of pruning are best and more efficiently
done with an aerial lift, such as on these date
palms pruned for the Bishop's School in La Jolla
(right) or these corals and eucalyptus (below).
